Cristina Iglesias at the Reina Sofía

A work by Cristina Iglesias from the Bergé Collection will travel to the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía for the artist’s major retrospective.
The piece in the Bergé Collection was selected for inclusion in the ambitious Cristina Iglesias retrospective due to open at the Reina Sofía on 6 February. The loaned work was transported from its home in Cuzcurrita to the prestigious Madrid museum, where visitors will be able to admire it until 13 May.

Featuring more than 50 works, the show at the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía is the largest retrospective to date of the artist’s career, ranging from her beginnings to the present day. Over the course of three decades, Cristina Iglesias has shown a determination to redefine sculpture as an expanded field for questioning the objectual in its relations with the spatial and architectural. Her sculptures are integrated with the architecture around them, engaging in a game of intertwined reality and appearances. In this way, her creations generate evocative fictional worlds and abandon their utilitarian purposes to become theatrical sets that stimulate thoughtful observation. They are intersections of the natural and the cultural, shadows, cascades, whirlpools and foliage, in which the most frequently recurring metaphor is the idea of shelter.
